Ever since the attack by keyboard warriors on the “ Hishiko Woo Summoned Deity Issue ”, my will to blog has been rekindled and thanks to the virality of the post, it reached around 800 views in 4 days. It might not be a huge deal for you, because 800 views are like peanuts on social media like Facebook, Instagram and especially TikTok. But for a dying blogging culture, it is considered another humble milestone for my underrated small bloggie. COVID19 Series Part 1: My Bizarre Experience as Close Contact To Positive COVID19 Patient!
After a few days, finally, I have time to pen down this horrific experience because I was burdened with online meetings and report preparation. Yet, my management still claimed that we were too free! (Part 2 is up)
The Whole Incident at Company
I just don’t know how to describe this experience. It was only last Monday, we were informed that one of our staff (Patient 0) was in close contact with a positive COVID19 patient since they stayed together in the same house. But my department and Patient 0 were from different levels in the same building. And, actually, we were already on shift since the beginning of the week; thus lowering the risk of contact. Thus due to this issue, on the following Thursday, we were informed not to come in, since Patient 0 only did her own swab tests on Tuesday noon. The results would only be out on Thursday.
Meantime, my company arranged for self-disinfection service on Wednesday to clean the offices. However, on Wednesday itself, our manager informed those on Thursday shift must come in to work based on our stupid management order, since the office had been “cleaned”. I was on Friday shift, so this did not affect me. However, on Thursday morning, my colleague called me to come in and assist the work, as Patient 0 was tested positive. I was very very reluctant to come in, however, since my colleague persuaded me to come in. But what I did not know that, we were to work in the same area as those with close contact to Patient 0. I was so furious how can my company risked our well-being just because of some stocks! And, who came out with such a stupid solution? Since those close contact to Patient 0 were there already, should let them finish the work before going for COVID19 swab test. After understanding the whole situation, it was again our stupid upper management!
We finished the work around afternoon, but our hearts were seriously sank to the bottom. Then, our safety person informed us that Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) would come to our company for assessment and closed the factory. Around evening time, our HR staff informed those who needed to do the swab test, and surprising, me including those who assisted were not included in the close-contact list (based on KKM assessment). But, this was not right! Some of us were just next door.
Being puzzled, worried and tired, I went on contacting the person-in-charge. Based on the KKM assessment and the interview with the Patient 0, we were ruled out as 2nd layer (close-contact), and remained in 3rd layer (self-quarantine) group. Okay, however, those remaining people in the building must do the swab test! Person-in-charge and my manager also highlighted this, however, the upper management (boss) did not response to their queries. Eventually, in the next morning, one of the staff contacted KKM and anonymous complained to KKM that our boss was kedekut and we indeed were close contact to the Patient 0. In this case, I believe KKM has no choice but to upgrade those remaining us into the 2nd layer group, and a compulsory swab was required. Actually, before the complaint, the company has decided to let us do private swab on Friday. Now due to the action of one person, not only we needed to do the swab test, those in my same household must be under compulsory quarantine, and they needed to wear the pink wristband as well! OH MY GOD, they would hate me now!
COVID19 Swab Test
I actually made a short video, on briefly what happened, as well as how the swab test and also my feeling after everything, in both Mandarin and Chinese!
Police Report On My Household
After the swab test, I went on to collect pink wristbands for myself, since I was actually pseudo-2nd layer and informed by my HR only those who did swab test needed to do that. But, when I reach the centre, they said all the household people must wear pink wristbands. My housemates were reluctant at first, as they had the vaccination. Then, after hour long of Q&A, they finally gave up and accepted this. However, the KKM doctor worried we might not comply, and called the police to check on us! This was crazy! Nonetheless, a picture solved this issue, by sending images of them on pink wristband as proof. This was indeed a crazy experience! Actually, due to the severity cases in our area, KKM doctor changed the SOP and handling and we must accept for the community as well. Anyway, another 3 days to go!
I could imagine how worried sick you were! My agent also had Covid and just quarantined alone at home. He did not even go to hospital or got swab test but instructions from his doctor friend. He recovered after being quarantined alone in his condo.
As for you, you were not even infected. Be happy and safe!
that kkm doctor is so intense. i was actually covid positive and experienced none of this. thanks for sharing your experience! hope you're all in the clear now.
Oh, hope that you have recovered now. Yeah, I am clear now. But still very worried from time to time. I think KKM doctor has no choice, too many people are not following SOP
