Hey there, fellow bloggers and internet adventurers! Today, I want to spill the beans about my recent escapades with some of Facebook's features, and boy, was it a wild ride to headache! Okay, this was also drafted since May 2022 of the misadventures I faced in the Metaverse!
Disclaimer: I seriously want to say “these are purely my personal experience”, perhaps, I wasn’t cunning/ smart/ patient enough to find a better way to utilise these features. Just to cover my a**
Meta Ad Manager through Business Profile
My friend introduced me to Meta Ad Manager or Facebook Business Profile, while it is not necessary to pay to promote your contents on Facebook, he said that it was good for statistical insights to improve my engagement and social media presence. So, naively, I created Meta Ad Manager account with “Ipoh Boy Journey” and listed all my social media accounts down this portfolio.
What did I get? Confusion! While the insights were available, but since those accounts are all lumped like sh**, I barely got any info from this. To make things worse, I have no idea why the page loading speed was so much worse than normal Facebook profile! This has prompted me to remove my account, but eventually due to their “policy”, the account removal was not successful. So, I have no choice but to delete all the private information, leaving it idle eventually.
In fact, the personal Facebook profile can provide so much better insights on post likes, comments etc, which will be sufficient unless you are a data scientist.
Facebook Fanpage New Experience
Okay, this feature was offered to me last year November 2021. Everything was smooth sailing like my facebook profile. However, it came with a catch! Yeah, a lot of functions were so well-hidden that it often takes much of my time to look for publishing tool etc.
Worse still, it crashes whenever I switch between profiles and my fan pages. That was the last straw, when I tried to revert back to Classic Page, it took quite some effort to find the button! You will need to go to fanpage mainpage, and look for the 3 dot menu, and click to “switch back to classic view”.
Boy, it took me countless YouTube tutorials to finally find that fking button! Okay, there was also a very bad news that if you revert to this function, Facebook will remove all the posts starting from Nov 2021, isn’t this a bit of stupid? We need to download and re-upload the page information????
I DID go back to classics and all those posts were gone with the wind. Then, in 2023, all pages were enforced into the New Fanpage! My eyes rolled to the top of the hills of Himalaya knowing this action from Facebook. And, I still faced an issue with one of the pages, that Reel function was missing, which I will further explained in a next post on how to resolve this issue.
Instant Article Facebook
Oh, Facebook instant article function was developed as a rival against Google ad sense. As a poor blogger yearning to make a few extra bucks, I thought, "Why not give it a shot?" Little did I know what awaited me?
Instant Articles were only friendly to non-Google product as such Wordpress. In fact, in a lot of tutorial, it did not provide help at all / guidance to install the instant articles for blogger (Google product). The tutorials were unhelpful, and I found myself battling with Meta properties and setting up my RSS feed for days.
Actually, I defied the rules and install instant articles for my blogger, instead of Wordpress. This was how the nightmare begun! Once the articles were produced into the publishing tool, I managed to import the articles manually. And when I finally got my articles published, they looked like a Picasso painting gone wrong - all distorted and messy! Worst of all, the audience was sent to Facebook instead of my beloved Blogger! I was most probably losing readers to my Facebook due to the faulty blogpost, and harming my blogspot readership all together. In the end, I waved the white flag and decided to bid farewell to reduce the disruption of traffics to my blogger.
I also noticed big news fanpage like Sinchew, The Star, Says ,etc started to remove instant article from their posts as well. I guessed this might be the very reason.
So, my fellow digital daredevils, let my misadventures be a cautionary tale in the ever-evolving Metaverse. While these features promised convenience and time-saving, all they brought me was a headache and a near-death experience for my blog. But hey, we live and learn, right? Now I'm back on track, taking the reins of my blog's destiny, and ready to embrace the next adventure that comes my way!
